Child stunting rates in Arunachal declining
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: There has been a major decline in prevalence of stunting among children under-five years in Arunachal Pradesh, said Yeshi Tsering, Additional Chief Secretary, H&FW Department, Govt. of Meghalaya.
The state has achieved the largest decline in child stunting rate among Indian states during the period between National Family Health Survey-3 , 2005-06 and Rapid Survey on Children conducted during 2013-14, informed Tsering during his inaugural speech at the state level consultation on good nutrition in Meghalaya on August 9.
According to him, Arunachal Pradesh has bettered the national average on infant and young children feeding practices, such as complementary feeding and dietary diversity.
However, the prevalence of Anaemia continues to be a big challenge in Arunachal Pradesh.
As per India Health Report, he said, 63.9% of children under-five years and 56.7% of women of age bracket 15-49 in Arunachal Pradesh are anemic. Anemia prevalence among pregnant women is even higher at 61.8%, he said adding that only 27.7% women reportedly consume 100 IFA (Iron Folic Acid) supplementation.
"It is worrying that the status of women in terms of education and early marriage is very poor in Arunachal Pradesh," he said.
Arunachal Pradesh has second highest rates of open defecation (31.7%) in North East after Assam (37.5%). Open defecation and inadequate hand washing are the main reasons for poor health in children leading to malnourishment, Dr. Tsering said citing the IHR report.
Dr. Tsering stressed on the importance of improving food habits in rural areas and creating awareness on importance of nutritious food, healthy lifestyle, education for women and girls, good sanitation and hygiene practices.
According to him, poor nutrition, early marriage, poor sanitation practices are badly affecting the overall health status of the North East.
On the occasion, Tsering also released a report with data specific to Meghalaya's nutritional indicators called 'The Meghalaya dashboard. The report shows that Meghalaya has made some improvement in health and nutrition status of women and children, but the progress is slow.
The meeting was organized to discuss implications of the India Health Report: Nutrition 2015 (IHR), by the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and the India Institute of Public Health-Shillong (IIPH-S) in collaboration with the Government of Meghalaya, Social Welfare Department, and State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW).
3 houses swept away in landslide at Zemithang
Tawang, Aug 12: Three houses and livestock were lost in a massive landslide that occurred at Kelengteng and Kharman villages under Zemithang circle on Thursday night.
While the two villages remains cut-off, two residential buildings, a WWF camp site and the office building of Community Conserve Area Management Committee were also swept away. The landslide was triggered by the incessant rains in the area for the last few days.
Lumla MLA, Jambey Tashi on Friday visited the affected Zemithang circle to assess the damages and to mobilize rescue and relief efforts.
Inspecting the damages at the 12th century Gorsam Stupa, the MLA Tashi instructed for speeding up restoration works. He directed the PWD department to construct CC drainage, retaining wall and CC steps inside the stupa compound as soon as possible to ward off further damages and solving the drinking water and electricity problem.
While inspecting the damages at government residential school Zemithang, Jambey emphasised for widening of the drainage system. He sanctioned a retaining wall, CC drain and an assembly ground for the school.
Later the MLA visited Brokenthang village nestled on the west bank of River Nyamjangchu. The village remains under constant threat of flood and submergence as the 200 metres wall has collapsed. Jambey met the local officials and instructed for immediate rescue and relief work.
Addressing a public meeting at Zemithang IB, Jambey sanctioned a RCC drain and slab culvert near sports stadium, a storm water drain and culvert in Karingar village and retaining walls in Lumpo and Muchut Gonpa. Further, funds for boundary wall and renovation of Sangteng Gonpa in Socktsen village and community hall were also allocated.
Meanwhile, the ITBP has also reported washing away of the steel suspension bridge on the porter track from Log Bridge to Khukhri in the strategic Indo-Sino border in Zemithang.
MLA Jambey had also instructed the concerned department to immediately reconstruct the bridge.

RKM seeks CM's support for Mission school in Papu Valley

ITANAGAR, Aug 12: A team of R K Mission Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal along with 11th West Seppa MLA Mama Natung called on Chief Minister Pema Khandu at his residence on Friday seeking support from the state govt. for establishment of the R K Mission School in Papu Valley. Natung has been constantly taking up the matter for establishment of Mission school in Pappu Valley for quality education.
The team including Swami Vishwashenanda, Secretary R K Mission Hospital Itanagar and Swami Yajnadhananda of Belur Math led by Swami Bodhasarananda, Assistant General Secretary, Belur Math sought cooperation in terms of funds from Chief Minister for infrastructural developments of proposed school in the valley.
Seeking support and cooperation from the Chief Minister to serve the people of Arunachal in terms of imparting quality education, Swami Bodhasarananda said, "We come to lay strong foundation of quality education in state through RK Mission.
He informed that his team will first assess the sites and accordingly will send report to headquarter for final approval. After formal procedures, the MoU will be signed with the state government, Swami added. He further informed initially the RK Mission is planning to starts from class-I to V.
Appreciating noble gesture from RK Mission to establish mission school in Papu Valley, Chief Minister Pema Khandu assured to give full cooperation for the infrastructural development of proposed school.
The Chief Minister further added that establishment of RK Mission School in Papu Valley will cater the needs of western Arunachal such as East Kameng, West Kameng and Tawang districts in imparting quality education. Khandu also appraised RK Mission delegates to make the institution up to class XII.
Local MLA Mama Natung exudes hope that RK Mission will expedite its required procedures, so that foundation stone could be laid at earliest.
He further conveyed gratitude to Chief Minister and RK Misison team on behalf of people of East Kameng and state as whole for making the dream project come true. Natung also assured to extend all logistic support including donation of land free of cost for the establishment of the mission school in picturesque valley, which considered as 'rice bowl' of East Kameng district.
R K Mission team will be leaving for Seppa on Saturday to inspect the feasibility of proposed sites. The local people have agreed to donate the land free of cost. Two areas (with 32-38 acre land each) such as Lumdang, and Seba have been identified for establishment of the school. The team along with local MLA, Deputy Commissioner DDSE, DLRSO and PRI leaders will assess the identified sites to finalise.
Earlier, the district administration of East Kameng had prepared a feasibility report and sent to RK Mission headquarter in 2015. The R K Mission has been active in Arunachal since 1966 in promoting quality education.
2500kg edible salt delivered to Vijaynagar
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: 2500 Kg of common salt were delivered to Vijaynagar through helicopter on August 7, much to the relief of the people.
The people of the remotest circle of Changlang were facing acute shortage of salt for the past few months; but supply of this most essential food ingredient was delayed due to bad weather condition. The salt were delivered at the initiative of WRD, Geology and Mines Minister Kamlung Mossang.
Rijiju visits Hawai, pays tribute to Pul
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju accompanied by BJP leader Sudhanshu Mittal and other dignitaries on Friday visited Hawai and paid tribute to former Chief Minister late Kalikho Pul. The team also visited the final resting place of the great visionary leader.
Kiren and other dignitaries also conveyed their condolences to Dangwinrasai Pul, wife of Late Pul and other bereaved family members.
Tezu MLA Mohesh Chai, Anjaw deputy commissioner Mamta Riba, SP B Kamduk, ZPC H Tawsik, HODs, and PRI leaders were present on the occasion.
Rijiju also had brief interaction with the PRIs and HoDs of various departments.
High Court reinstates chairmanship of HPDC
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: A recent High Court order has reinstated the chairmanship of the Hydro Power Development Corporation (HPDC) of Arunachal Pradesh Ltd. which had been terminated by the Governor earlier.
During the President's Rule from Jan 26 to Feb 19, Governor JP Rajkhowa had cancelled all officiating or functional appointments made by the Nabam Tuki government including the chairmanship of the state HPDC which was held by Tungri Effa.
His appointment was cancelled by an order issued by the Power Commissioner on Feb 17 earlier. Effa was first appointed to the post on 16 Nov, 2015 and on 18 Jan, 2016 his tenure was fixed for three years.
The order, issued on August 10, noted that Effa was removed 'without following the rules and procedures as stipulated in the Articles of Association and he was removed arbitrarily against the principles of natural justice'.
The single bench court of Justice I Shah also noted that 'no reasons, whatsoever, have been assigned by the state government, while terminating the petitioner'.
Effa has also written to the Chief Secretary informing her of the said order.
Notably, in the same order, the court also reinstated Yura Tagung as chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh Bamboo Resources and Development Agency.
AAPSU demands permanent solution to flood problem
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) has demanded a permanent solution to flood problem in Namsai and its adjoining areas by adopting latest flood controlling technologies.
Floods in Noa Dehing unleash widespread devastation every year causing untold miseries to the people of Namsai and its adjoining areas. The traditional methods of flood control have so far proved futile which is evident from the recurring floods, including the recent one, said AAPSU in its representation to Chief Minister and urged him to act on the issue.
While demanding proper relief and rehabilitation of the people displaced by the recent flood, AAPSU informed the Chief Minister that it has come across atleast 30 families, whose dwelling houses and croplands were completely washed away by flood water need relocation at the earliest.
AAPSU further urged the Chief Minister to deploy a unit of NDRF at flood prone Namsai district permanently, which would also be beneficial to entire eastern districts of the state.
Power supply to Arunachal Bhawan, Mumbai disconnected
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) has finally disconnected electricity supply to Arunachal Bhavan, Mumbai which is causing great problem to cancer patients living in the Bhawan, informed Arunachal Students' Union Mumbai (ASUM).
Blaming negligence on part of the state government for the power disconnection, ASUM lamented that despite repeated pleas by ASUM, the state government failed to clear the pending electricity bill of Arunachal Bhavan.
ASUM said that a team of the union met the chairman of USR Limited and urged it to pay the bill; but to no avail.
APCC reacts to BJP retort
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has reacted to the news report wherein the state BJP said that the political unrest in the state and alleged suicide of Late Kalikho Pul is the result of trust deficit among the ruling Congress legislatures in the state and termed it a complete u-turn.
It's very unfair and unfortunate that BJP is trying to politicize the demise of departed soul of Lt. Pul, which is not a sign of respect, it retorted.
Who is responsible for forming unconstitutional government by violating the provision of Constitution? Modi had instructed Governor J P Rajkhowa to dismiss Tuki led Congress Govt, by hook and by crook by going against the Indian Constitution. Why Pul led PPA Govt did not merge with BJP?

Upper Subansiri lawyers not to take up cases of accused

DAPORIJO, Aug 12: Bar Association of Upper Subansiri District, in a meeting, resolved that no member advocate of the association will appear either as private counsel or public prosecutor in cases against five government officials, who were arrested by Daporijo police for allegedly preparing false bills.
Condemning the act of preparing false bill by those officials and terming it as anti-development, the Bar Association also expressed its disapproval over early grant of bails to those alleged accused. The Association also submitted representations to the Deputy Commissioner, Judicial Magistrate First Class cum Civil (Jr) Division Judge to register its strong protest on the matter of granting bail to the alleged accused.
The association appealed to police to conduct more investigation as there may be more officials involved in such activities.
Dr. Taggu becomes first super-specialist physician in critical care medicine from NE
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: Dr. Alai Taggu has become the first super-specialist physician in Critical Care Medicine from Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeast India. He has made the state proud by topping the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka in the department of critical care medicine (2013-16) and, has been selected for the Gold medal category.
He is the son of Opet Taggu and Taling Taggu from Aalo, West Siang and an alumnus of Rama Krishna Mission School, Aalo and Postgraduate from JIPMER, Pondicherry. Coming from a humble background, his achievement is an inspiration to many and is an asset to the state of Arunachal Pradesh in general and advanced medical field in particular.

Dr. Alai Taggu was conferred the prestigious Fellow of American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP), USA for his contributions towards the research in critical care having published original articles in peer reviewed international journals like CHEST, Intensive Care Medicine etc.
European Diplomat of Intensive Care (EDIC) is a subspecialty equivalent of intensive care in Europe conducted by the European society of Intensive care. He is a regular speaker in the prestigious forum.
Concerted efforts needed to make children worm free
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: The District administrations of various districts on Friday gave emphasis on concerted efforts to make children worm free in the state.
At Ziro, Lower Subansiri, ADC, Nending Chatung has stressed the need for more concerted efforts from all the stakeholders to make the children of the district worm free.
He was addressing a steering committee meeting for the second round of National De-worming Day held in the office chamber of the DC on Friday.
National Deworming Day, an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare aims at reducing the risk of parasite worms in children, was launched earlier in Feb in Arunachal Pradesh.
Chatung also appealed to the parents and guardians to send their children to schools and Anganwadi centers for administration of Albendazole pill which will be given free of cost to all children between 1-19 years. He further directed the DDSE to ensure safe drinking water during the deworming day.
DRCHO, Dr. Derin Likar in his address said that basic health and sanitation practices like, washing hands before and after a meal besides, desisting from open defecation can minimize the risk of parasitic infestations.
He further informed that trained Anganwadi workers and teachers would administer the Albendazole pill to a total of 24,194 children at schools and Anganwadi centres on Aug 17 next while, the Mop Up round would be carried out on Aug 23 next to cover all the left out children.
The meeting was attended by DMO Dr.Tage Kano, DD ICDS, BEO and medical staffs.
At Pasighat, the district level coordination committee meeting cum workshop on National De-worming Day was held at the DC's office chamber on Friday. Chairing the meeting, DC in-charge Bani Lego said, care should be taken while administering the de-worming tablets and emphasized on training the ASHAs and AWWs for administering the medicine. Medical officers of general hospital and PHCs, CHCs and health centers should ensure 100% coverage. PRI leaders and councilors should spread awareness in the society so that all parents could bring their children aged 1 to 19 years, to avail free of cost Albendazole de-worming tablets to eradicate worm diseases.
DMO Dr. M Perme informed that East Siang District would join with rest of the nation for successful implementation of NDD on August 17 and a Mop-up Day to be followed on August 23 next to those children who were missed. He gave emphasis on the role of the Anganwadi workers, ASHAs and PRI members at the grassroot level and said that the success of the programme lies on their sincerity.
DRCHO Dr T Gao gave a presentation on role and function of Anganwadi workers, ASHAs and PRI leaders while Ipi Doke, DPM presented a brief report of achievements.

At Namsai, the District Level Steering Committee meeting on National De-worming Day (NDD) was conducted on Friday at DCs Conference hall.
Chairing the meeting, Namsai DC, R.K. Sharma advised the DDSE to provide the numbers of children aged between 6 to 19 years, and CDPOs to provide the data on the children between the age group of 1-5 years and to collect the data through AWWs for the children out of schools. He suggested for conducting meetings on Aug 16 at all CHCs and PHCs wherein MO i/cs will impart orientation training to concerned teachers and AWWs and will also distribute Albendozle tablets and IEC materials.

DRCHO, Dr. Pill Dipen highlighted the activities to be taken up during the day and mop up day wherein the roles and responsibilities of all the stake holder departments were also discussed in length. He also emphasized on preparing micro plans in advance so that the necessary materials could be procured and distributed to implementing centres in time.
At Seppa, a meeting cum sensitisation programme for launching of 2nd round of National Deworming Day (NDD) in East Kameng district was conducted at Seppa by the DHS under the chairmanship of DC Rajeev Takuk.
DMO Dr. C L Lowang briefed about the objectives of the meeting and the NDD. She further highlighted about the achievement made during last NDD programme of the district.
DRCHO Dr. K Lapung informed about the aims and objectives of the NDD, its salient features, target areas, and roles and responsibilities of each stakeholder. He sensitised about the causes and effects of the disease, its preventive measures, and future consequences if left untreated such as anemia, impaired mental, physical and cognitive development, stunted growth and others. Admitting that the Albendazole tablet is safe and approved by the WHO and MoH&FW, GoI, he illustrated about the ways and means for administration of drug and generation of wide awareness among the masses.
Citing an example, the DC has emphasized that medicine, way of administration and dosage as prescribed by the doctor should be strictly adhered to. Same medicine may come in different category and composition such as 200 mg, 400 mg, etc., thus administration should be done under strict supervision.
DDSE K Rangmo, MS, Dr. K Gyadi, MO i/c Dr. K. Sopin and WWO President V W Sonam also spoke in the meeting. MOs, CDPO, DCM, Health Assistants, ANMs, ASHA facilitators, schools representatives and other staffs were present in the NDD meeting cum sensitisation programme.
Tapang calls for team spirit for development of Siang district
PASIGHAT, Aug 12: In his maiden coordination meeting with the Head of Offices, the Minister Industries, Cooperation, Textiles and Handicrafts Tapang Taloh has asked them to join hands in the district building process with sincerity and team spirit. Taking cognizance of the practical difficulties being faced by the officers, he told them that under dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, people would see new height of development soon. Further he stated that extra care and adequate funds would be given by the government to transform Siang into a model district with developed infrastructure. He also held open discussion with the officers and patiently heard the grievances and solutions.
Earlier Deputy Commissioner Rahul Singh in his message to the officers advised them to be more proactive and work for all-round development of the people. They must be sincere and available in the office during working hours to deliver prompt service to the people. Singh also suggested them to prepare short and long terms plans for the newborn districts.
Deputy Director Urban Development Sankoli Sonam dealt in length on the Master plan of Siang district. To avoid destroying any structure for town expansion in future, he said proper demarcation for residential area, offices, space for park, burial ground along with road, drainage and utility corridor were necessary. MAYA demands action against erring officials
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: Memo Ao Youth Association (MAYA), West Siang district in a representation to the state Chief Secretary has demanded suspension and initiation of disciplinary proceedings against the officials of Aalo PWD division who are responsible for alleged misappropriation of Rs 100 lakh fund meant for maintenance of NH 229 from Tai to Pangin road in West Siang district.
Earlier, the Association had submitted complaint to the West Siang DC in June last alleging non-execution of maintenance work on the Tai-Pangin road particularly in Pushi Banggo area.
According to documents made available by the Association, an enquiry board had also conducted field enquiry and found the overall grading of the road maintenance work was unsatisfactory. Based on the field enquiry conducted by the Board, the West Siang DC in his report on maintenance of Tai to Pangin Road written to the Principal Secretary (Vig) on July 11, recommended 'severe disciplinary proceeding against the concerned officials of PWD Aalo Division. Deterrent actions against the delinquent officials are required to arrest such wasteful expenditure in future, the recommendation said. It further added that amount spent for the said maintenance work does not commensurate with the actual work done in the field. A criminal case was also registered against the concerned official at Aalo PS on July 20.
Pema, APCC mourns death of party leader
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: Chief Minister Pema Khandu has deeply mourned the sad and untimely demise of Lognding DCC (I) President Hokai Lukham who breathed his last at a Shillong hospital on Thursday.
Recalling his close association with late Lukham during his tenure as DCC (I) President, Pema termed him as honest, humble and dedicated party leader. They had attended several meetings together and shared views and ideas to strengthen the party.
Chief Minister in his condolence message has expressed deep sorrow and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul. He also prayed to almighty to bestow enough strength and courage to the bereaved family to bear with the irreparable loss.
Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has also mourned the demise of its secretary Hokai Lukham who breathed his last on Thursday at Shillong after prolonged illness.
Late Lukham made significant contribution towards welfare of the people of Tirap and Longding districts as a political leader and social worker. His untimely demise is an irreparable loss for the Congress party in particular and the state as a whole, the party said in its condolence message.
Lukham served the party in various capacities like general secretary DYC from 1992-94, general secretary DCC from 1994-1998, secretary DCC from 1998-2006 and vice president of DCCfrom 2006-2010 of the then undivided Tirap district and president DCC, Tirap and Longding districts from 2010 to 2016 and later elevated to the post of secretary APCC in 2016.
Also condoling the demise, National Students Union of India state unit prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and to bestow enough strength to the family members to bear the irreparable loss.
Security intensified in East Siang on I-Day eve

PASIGHAT, Aug 12: Security measure has been intensified in East Siang district on the eve of Independence Day.
Police said that though there was no insurgency threat, yet internal security of the district has been beefed up by deployment of adequate security forces to prevent any subversive elements/activities on or before the Independence Day.
Meanwhile, law and order situation of the district has been reviewed. Police, IRBn and para military forces have been deployed in every vulnerable location and they are keeping regular vigil on the suspected movements besides conducting area domination.
Vulnerable pockets along Assam-Arunachal boundary at Mebo, Ruksin and Nari sub-divisions are under strict security surveillance.
To restrain law and order of district HQ Pasighat, Police has divided the township into six security beats and adequate security personnel have been deployed under a police beat officer in each beat.
Moreover, regular night patrolling in and around the township is introduced, while para military forces are guarding parade ground and adjoin areas.
3rd phase fogging operation at Pasighat

PASIGHAT, Aug 12: In its continuous effort to prevent mosquito borne diseases, the East Siang District Health Department carried out third phase fogging operation in Pasighat urban area in the last two days.
District Medical Officer M Perme informed that cases of vector borne diseases, like malaria, encephalitis and dengue have been trimmed down after effective 'source reduction' measures.
According to him, the Health Department with help of local residents is continuing source reduction operation to destroy all possible mosquito breeding sites to keep the mosquito population under control.
Fogging kills only adult mosquitoes; therefore destruction of breeding sites is more effective to prevent mosquito borne diseases, the doctors said.
East Siang district has record of massive outbreak of malaria, dengue and Acute Encephalitic Syndrome cases during the past few years. Barring some malaria cases, no cases of dengue, JE etc have been reported so far from any part of the district this year.

Naharlagun Solung FC, Giidi Yameng FC enter semis
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: Naharlagun Solung FC (NSFC) and Giidi Yameng FC became the first two teams to enter into the semifinals of the Itanagar Solung Football Tournament.
Naharlagun Solung FC beat Solung Yameng Aaro FC (SYAFC) 3-2 in the first quarterfinal match while Giidi Yameng FC thrashed Donggin Ao FC 7-0 in the second quarterfinal match played at APPBn Ground, Chimpu near here on Friday.
In the first quarterfinal, SYAFC took the early lead with goal from Katem Dai in 10th minute only to be equalized by Lego Nokar (of NSFC) in 14th minute (1-1). Tatem Taloh added two more goals for NSFC in 22ndand 79th minute (3-1).
SYAFC's Mirem Perme scored the second goal in 85th minute to reduce the margin of defeat to 2-3.
Okit Palling of NSFC and Bajiv Perme of SYAFC were shown yellow cards by the referee.
In the second quarterfinal, Franklin Taki scored two goals for Giidi Yameng FC while Durga Nonang, Ojing Tasing, Joseph Jonnom, Obi Padung and Tajong Gao scored one goal each for the winning team.
Durga Nonang of GYFC was adjudged as 'player of the match'.
Donggin Yameng FC will take on Solung United FC in the third quarterfinal match on Saturday while Banggo United FC will lock horns with Siang United FC in the fourth quarterfinal in the same day.

LAZU, Aug 12: A mini Outdoor Stadium was inaugurated by Khonsa West MLA Tirong Aboh at Lazu on Friday amidst huge gathering of Chiefs, GBs, PRIs, HoDs from Lazu and public from the area. The mini stadium was constructed at the cost of Rs.1 crore under BADP/SPA by the PWD.
The MLA urged the people to stop opium/poppy cultivation and adopt cash crops cultivation like large cardamom, large chilly and large ginger, piggery, fishery and poultry. Further the MLA urged all departments as well as contractors to implement govt. schemes under various projects properly. The MLA has also appreciated the PWD for timely completion and efficient quality of the work of the stadium.
The MLA also announced Rs. 1 lakh each to all fire victims of the constituency.
Responding to the public memorandum submitted by ZPM Lazu, the Aboh announced construction of a Welcome Gate, repairing of Multipurpose Community Hall, extension and roofing of Stadium and construction of EAC's office building at Lazu.
Badminton tournament at Deomali begins
KHONSA, Aug 12: The badminton tournament organized by Narottam Club of Deomali began at Deomali on Friday.
Soha ZPM Windong Sawin, who declared the tournament open, appreciated Dobin Doke, ACF and other club members for organizing the tournament which would go a long way in encouraging the youth towards games and sports.
Speaking on the occasion, DIPRO Denhang Bosai underscored the importance of games and sports, especially for overall personality development of the youth said. He also highlighted on various programmes and policies of the state government for the welfare of sportspersons, including reservation of job for meritorious sportspersons in government departments.
He exhorted the youth to take up sports seriously and make career out of it.
He advised the youths to take full advantage of presence of Dobin Doke, ACF, Deomali, who is a good badminton and chess players.
He appreciated the youths of Deomali, especially the girls for taking a keen interest in sports.
Earlier, the main force and inspiration behind the tournament Dobin Doke threw light on the main objectives of holding the badminton tournament.
It may be mentioned here that there are two badminton clubs in Deomali --one at the heart of the town and another on the bank of Chatjo river.
The old Narottam Club came to limelight when former MP Wangcha Rajkumar, a badminton aficionado, was assassinated while playing in 2007.
Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Wangki Lowang has conveyed his best wishes for the tournament and assured all possible help and support from his side.

Water supply to Balijan disrupted
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: The water supply at ADC headquarter, Balijan has been disrupted following flash flood on August 8 last which washed away headwork and main pipeline of 150mm.
'The restoration work is in full swing which will take about a week's time. Meanwhile, water tanker has been put on service,' informed assistant engineer PHESD, Karsingsa, PHE&WS, Yupia Division in a press release.
'25% job reservation for senior most contingency staffs sought'
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: The All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU) has demanded for strict adherence to 25 percent job reservation for the senior most contingency staffs.
In its representation to the commissioner, health and family welfare, the union also demanded that district level AAPLU representatives be included as members in the DPC.
'There are many senior most contingency staffs that have rendered their many precious years for the department. They should be given opportunity for regularization of their jobs', it said in its letter urging the commissioner to pass orders to all the DCs and DMOs for its strict implementation.
'Mission one lakh tree'
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: 1000 saplings were planted in and around Tawang Township during a day-long plantation programme on Friday organized under 'Mission One Lakh Tree" initiated by Tawang DFO.
Conifer saplings were planted on slopes and unused patches in SSB and Special Bureau Complex, Tawang in order to check landslide and erosion by the forest staff and SSB jawans assisted by the students of Higher Secondary School Tawang.
DFO Tawang Dr A Qayum, RFO T Haniya, Deputy Commandant (SSB Tawang) Kaikho Athikho were present during the plantation drive.
SBI Digital Village
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: State Bank of India (SBI) has selected Nirjuli Village- 1 under Papum Pare district for implementation of SBI Digital Village. The objective of this project is to empower Rural India through Digital Banking with the aim of moving to cashless eco-system for various banking activities such as Rupay Card to each household, Alternate Channels like ATM, CDM, POS, Micro ATM, Mobile Banking, Internet Banking, Mobile Wallet like SBI Buddy etc.
These facilities will be ensured for the inhabitants of the village through SBI link branch, Nirjuli. The process of door-to-door survey of the village for collection of data through Anganwadi workers and other activities related to the project has already been started by the Bank, according a SBI release.
Extortionist arrested
ROING, Aug 12: Lower Dibang Valley Police has arrested one Ekho Meto (31) of Asoli village under Hunli Police Station on extortion charges under section 452/385 of IPC (case no. 34/2016).
Police have recovered one TV set, inverter with battery, 2 KV automatic stabilizer, gas cylinder and curtains from his possession.
He also had allegedly extorted Rs. 5,000 and snatched an authorized slip to issue 230 ltrs of diesel for public vehicle from a public servant, told Investigation Officer SI Mongol Koyu.
He adopted the modus operandi of threatening lives of people/house owners and took away precious household items at 'dao' point, the IO said.
The district police appealed one and all to inform such kinds of incident at the police station or dial No. 100 or 222229 so that police can take prompt action. DIPRO

ITANAGAR, Aug 12: The members of United Charity led by its chairperson T Sangge Droma on Friday organized a small prayer function here for eternal peace of departed soul of former Chief Minister Kalikho Pul at the Itanagar Gompa.

Ete conducts unannounced visit to Govt Model College, Basar
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: Deputy State Project Director (RUSA) Minto Ete had an unannounced visit to Govt. Model College, Basar on August 12 to take stock of the progress of ongoing construction at its permanent site.
While inspecting the ongoing construction activities of Academic Building, Ete directed the executing agency to speed up the works maintaining quality. He requested them not to compromise with quality or else the subsequent funding will be automatically cancelled by RUSA.
Since the funding under RUSA programme is performance a base, those states that are not performing up to the satisfaction will lose fund, he cautioned.
Farmers trained in plant protection measures
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: In all 38 rural youths, farm women and men along with village-level climate risk management committee members attended a day-long training programme on plant protection measures in pulse, conducted by KVK, West Siang at NICRA-TDC Village, Disi on Friday.
During the training, SMS, Plant Protection, Dr. Kangabam Suraj Singh briefly explained about management of diseases and pests in pulse.
Apart from the training, method demonstration in seed treatment for pulse seed storage and soil solarization technique was also conducted on the occasion.
Social service conducted at Anini
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: A social service cum cleanliness drive was conducted at Anini under the banner of Swachh Bharat Mission Programme by the district administration.
People from various sections of the society, especially the government employees, school students of JNV and Govt. Higher Secondary School, Anini participated enthusiastically in the cleanliness drive.
Plastic garbages were picked from the drains and roads were cleaned by the school students. The general ground was also cleaned as a part of the programme and also as preparation for the Independence Day celebration.
Road repaired
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: The volunteers of the All Upper Subansiri District Contractors' Welfare Association (AUSDCWA) repaired the dilapidated road from Gandhi Market in Daporijo to '0' Point Subansiri Bridge and some parts of Lida Village as part of a two-day long social service from Aug 10 and 11 last.
15 excavators, a road roller and 30 trucks were engaged to repair the said road under the supervision of 24 Daporijo, MLA and the Deputy Commissioner.

ZIRO, Aug 12: A mass social service was conducted under the aegis of Swaatch Bharat Abhiyaan in Hapoli on Friday. During the drive, all the colony dwellers cleaned their respective colonies and sectors while, the HoDs and their staffs cleaned up Government Higher Secondary School campus and the playground.

Workshops on AFP & Measles Surveillance at Yupia
YUPIA, Aug 12: A day-long district level workshop on AFP & Measles Surveillance-cum-District Level Steering Committee meeting cum workshop on NDD and Measles Catch Up Campaign (SIA) Micro Plan was held on Friday at the ZPC Conference Hall, Yupia in collaboration with the Surveillance Medical Officer, WHO NPSP.
The DRCHO gave a presentation on preparedness of National De-worming Day as well as on the role of Nodal Officers in the district and reporting site, demonstration in AFP Surveillance.
Surveillance Medical Officer, WHO NPSP, Dr. Tage Taka made a presentation on various topics like Polio eradication-current status and our risks, principles of AFP surveillance, situation of AFP surveillance in the state, district, blocks-major issues, AFP Case Investigation CIF filling exercise, emergency preparedness and response plan, measles surveillance current status and issues and reporting outbreak investigation and sample collection, RI schedule and recent update.
GSU calls for exclusion of villages from Siang Forest Division
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: The Galo Students Union (GSU) has appealed for initiating necessary actions to exclude Kambu and Paya Village with traditional Jhoom land/WRC lands from the proposed Siang district Forest Division.
The land also include Jhoom land and WRC field of Kabu and Bene village situated on the left bank of River Yomgo which stretches upto Aalo Township.
In a representation, the GSU also stated a new map may be prepared after conducting public hearing and due consultation from the people of the affected areas to avoid any chaos and confusion in the future.
The GSU stated that the Galo villages and their traditional WRC fields, Jhoom land etc have been included which are otherwise parts of West Siang District since the very beginning.
AAPSU conduct social service
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: Naikai Wangpasam, Secretary Border Affairs and Communal Harmony, Longding district unit of AAPSU in collaboration of 4th Sikh Regiment conducted social service under "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Mission" at Longding town. Members of Longding District Student's Union (LDSU) and Wancho Student's Union (WSU) were also present.
The team conducted social service at Govt. Higher Secondary School compound, market and district hospital area. The social service was conducted in view of coming Independence Day celebration. Deputy Commissioner Longding, Himanshu Gupta in his brief address advised students to maintain their cleanliness at schools and homes.

Strongly punish the wrongdoer
Most of the important infrastructure projects of Arunachal including that of green field airport and highway projects are stuck due to compensation issues. The exorbitant compensation claim made in various districts has bogged down the Trans Arunachal highway project. Once completed this highway will connect all the major district headquarter of the state. But unfortunately barring few stretches most of the work under TAH has not started due to compensation issue

Segregation of mothers
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I would like to share an unpleasant thought that haunts me every time it comes to my mind.
Lady teachers serving in different schools under SSA, RMSA, KGBV are not entitled to avail maternity leave.
I have worked with 8 month pregnant lady teachers and witnessed lady teachers attending their duty with a 7 days old infant. I feel so sorry for them but then I am a layman and the policies, rules and regulations for SSA,RMSA, KGBV etc were framed by highly intellectual, wise and well qualified dignitaries. Should I ever question their wisdom and integrity?
There are several organisations in our state to look after the well being and rights of mother/women and children but none of them ever pondered the plight and pain of a hapless pregnant contractual teacher, a breast feeding SSA teacher and a helpless baby. So will it be a just for a lone man to shout at the silence of group of people.
Pardon ignorant me for not understanding the division of mothers and their infants on the basis of the nature of their employment. May I ask how is the needs and problems of a mother working on regular basis and her baby different from that of a mother working as contractual employee and her baby? What are the aims, objectives and reasons for not granting maternity leave to the contractual employees? Why is an innocent infant tortured because of her mother's inability to get a permanent job?
If my thought is wrong, a simpleton me, begs pardon. But if I am correct then where are the wise men?

Delay in declaration of result
Dear Editor,
It's been almost more than two years since the conduct of interview for the post of Assistant sub inspector of Department of Tax and Excise. Many of us had faced the written examination after lot of preparation and hard work with hope to pass or at least test our ability in facing competitive exam. But delay in declaration of results have caused us lot of despair and demoralised all the educated unemployed youths of the state. We are forced to believe again and again about the state of affairs in govt job recruitment in Arunachal pradesh. We are repeatedly reminded that all articles and letters that popup in the newspapers and readers forum about backdoor appointment and corruption prevalent in Arunachal is indeed true. If they were not to declare the results then why at all was interview the conducted. It will surely demoralise the deserving and unemployed youths and may force them to engage in unlawful or antisocial activities, which will be disastrous for the state in the long run. Therefore, I request the Dept of Tax & Excise in particular and all other departments of Arunachal Pradesh to declare the results of interviews within six months of conduct or whichever is earlier.

Failing judiciary

The recent hit and run case and the lack of apathy among residents of Delhi in helping an ailing individual who succumbed to his injuries has raised great hue and cry across India. But are we willing to probe deep beneath these macabre incidents happening across the country and trying to truly ascertain what are making people heartless and emotionless? One of the biggest reasons behind this is the failing judiciary of the world’s largest democracy. If something has really gone wrong in India is the mass failure of the judicial system across the length and breadth of the country. The Indian judicial system particularly the High Courts across the country and the Supreme Courts (one of corner stones of the sanctum sanctorum of Indian democracy) is giving a direct message to the mass that if you are rich and powerful, if you have connections and if you can be a good manage master; the law of the land cannot touch you. I am asking this question directly to the Chief Justice of India through your esteemed newspaper, how many poorest of the poor in India could afford to fight a judicial case in the Supreme Court of India? The Supreme Court has turned into a shameless institution of corruption and an organization for supporting the rights, interests and causes of only the rich and powerful in India. It has failed the Indian constitution and more importantly the rights of the ordinary citizens of India. For the huge amount of benefits received by the judges (both in service and after retirement) in senior courts; one wonders what justice are the ordinary people getting in post independent India. It is getting worse than the predetermined verdicts of the erstwhile British courts if the nation that protected the rights if the then British masters. Is India any better than the days of the British Raj in getting true justice as an independent and sovereign nation? A vast majority of the judges of this nation should be ashamed of their shameless submission to the rich and influential, politically powerful bosses and rich and influential lawyers who are shaping judgements behind locked doors. Unless this lawlessness and hopelessness generated and gifted to the nation by Indian judicial system changes; people’s attitude towards crime, criminal activities and respect and care for helping others are not going to change. Justice denied is the greatest crime that the history of criminology has ever recorded.

There are 5 districts viz. Lower Subansiri, Kurung Kumey, Upper Subansiri, Kra Daadi
and part of Papum Pare and Defence force using the Kimin-
We do not want to know the reason why it is being delayed but we want good and widened road at the earliest, before next monsoon arrives. It is a lifeline of 5 districts and goods come from Asom via this road only, border defence force can reach swiftly in any emergency.
Hence seeing the importance, we request BRO and Administration to execute and supervise strictly and give us good road soon.
Lastly, it is earnest request to BRO to acquire latest machineries to execute work at considerable pace with less risk to man force.
